While You Wait — 3 Frigidaire-Specific Checks

Check the On/Off Switch

Most Frigidaire models have the ice maker switch right on the module itself inside the freezer — a wire bail or a push-button. Make sure it's in the ON position.

Look Inside the Tray

Check whether there's a solid block of ice stuck in the mold that can't eject. If yes, the ejector heater or the drive gears have likely failed.

Check the PureSource Filter

Frigidaire is very sensitive to water pressure. If your PureSource filter is more than 6 months old, pressure drops and water stops reaching the ice maker.

Frigidaire Appliance Tech · Orange

Frigidaire and Electrolux ice makers fail in a pattern. The two most common failures are broken drive gears inside the module and a burned-out ejector heater — the small element that warms the tray just enough to release the cubes. When it goes, ice freezes permanently in the mold.

These are inexpensive parts, and I always carry OEM Frigidaire ice maker assemblies and dual water inlet valves. Replacement takes about 30 minutes, and the module starts a new ice cycle immediately after.

Why Your Frigidaire Ice Maker Stopped — 4 Causes

Precise diagnosis in 10 minutes.

1. Ice Maker Module (Assembly) — ~50% of calls

Broken drive gears, a failed motor, or a burned ejector heater. Ice freezes in the mold and won't eject. The entire module needs replacement — it's more reliable than swapping individual gears.

2. Dual Water Inlet Valve — ~25%

Water works at the dispenser but nothing fills the ice mold. One of the solenoid coils on the dual valve at the back of the fridge has burned out.

3. Freezer Too Warm — ~15%

Frigidaire won't start an ice cycle until the freezer hits 15°F (-9°C) or below. If the freezer is running warm, the root cause — fan or defrost system — needs to be fixed first.

4. Frozen Fill Tube — ~10%

A slowly leaking inlet valve lets water drip and freeze at the fill tube entrance into the freezer. The tube gets blocked with ice. We thaw it and replace the valve.
