If the puddle is growing fast, close the water shutoff valve behind the refrigerator or under the sink. That stops the leak at the source.
Wipe up water under the crisper drawers. If it freezes overnight, it can crack the plastic drawer frames — adding an unnecessary repair.
Lift the feeler arm or press the off switch on the ice maker. Sometimes the leak is coming from an overfilled or jammed ice mold.
JennAir Appliance Tech · Orange
JennAir refrigerators (Whirlpool's premium segment) have a specific recurring leak pattern: frozen defrost drain.
When the drain tube ices over or clogs, water from the defrost cycle has nowhere to go. Instead of draining to the drip pan below, it overflows inside the fridge cabinet, collects under the Deli and Crisper drawers, then seeps out through the front onto the floor.
I use a steam generator to safely clear the JennAir defrost drain. I also install a modified aluminum drain heater probe that prevents the drain from re-freezing in the future.
We know where to look for water.
Water sits under the crisper drawers or spills onto the floor from the front. The drain tube is frozen solid. Requires steam clearing and drain heater probe installation.
Water drips from the top of the fridge interior — right from the filter housing. The plastic housing cracked from pressure or age. Housing replacement required.
Puddle at the rear of the fridge near the wall. Inlet valve failed or cracked. Often accompanied by the ice maker stopping — same valve feeds both.
A giant ice dam forms around the ice maker. The inlet valve won't fully close and keeps trickling water into the mold between cycles.
