Drum sagging, scraping, or wobbling?

Worn drum glides, a damaged felt seal, or failing support rollers — each has a different fix. We open the cabinet, diagnose on-site, and give you a flat quote before we touch anything. If we don't fix it, you don't pay.

Drum glides & felt seal

The plastic front/rear glides or the felt drum seal wear out — drum scrapes the cabinet wall.

Dryer Repair Tech · Orange

1,500+ dryers repaired. Drum issues are the second most common noise complaint after bad rollers.

What you'll notice: scraping or thumping during spin, clothes snagging on the drum edge, or the drum visibly wobbling. These are all signs the drum support components need attention.

My recommendation: when a drum glide kit is needed, I replace all the glides and the felt seal together ($60–$80 total for parts). Doing them in pieces adds two extra visits. On the same job I always check the rollers and belt — saves you money down the road.

How the repair works

From your call to a working dryer — here's exactly what happens

1. Call Us

Describe what's happening. Dmitry asks 2–3 questions and gives you a ballpark price on the spot.

2. Diagnostics + Vent Check

Dmitry tests the element, belt, rollers, motor — and always checks the exhaust duct. A clogged vent is a fire hazard.

3. Approve the Quote

Happy with the price — we fix it. Not happy — you only pay $89 for the diagnostic.

4. Repair + Free Vent Clean

We replace the part, clean the vent at no charge, run a full heat cycle, and show you how to prevent the issue from coming back.

5 drum issues — and what causes them

Open the cabinet, look at the drum support — cause identified in 5 minutes

1. Worn drum glides (40%)

Plastic slides front and/or rear have worn away — drum scrapes the cabinet. Scratching sound through the cycle. Replace full glide kit. Labor: $80. Part: $30–$50.

2. Failed drum support rollers (30%)

Two rollers in the rear support the drum. When they go, drum sags, wobbles, and thumps. Always replaced in pairs. Labor: $80. Part: $40.

3. Worn felt drum seal (15%)

The felt strip seals the drum to the front panel. Worn seal lets clothes slip in and get damaged — and causes a scraping sound. Labor: $80. Part: $20–$40.

4. Stretched or broken belt (10%)

A worn belt can cause thumping before it snaps completely. Catching it early prevents the drum from seizing. Labor: $80. Part: $20.

5. Drum bearing / motor bearing (5%)

Rear drum shaft or motor bearing — a high metallic screech. Worsens fast, eventually locks the drum. Labor: $120–$180. Part: $60–$150.

Why we fix your dryer right the first time

The average tech: "not heating — swap the element" ($150). Didn't help. "Then the thermal fuse" ($80). Still nothing. You pay three times. Our analyzer reads amperage on the element, air temp, and vent airflow in 5 minutes. One part, one visit — no guessing.

Sometimes the fix is simpler than you think

Spin the drum by hand

Open the door and rotate the drum manually. Smooth? Problem may be the belt. Grinds or drags? Rollers or glides.

Locate the sound

Scraping at the front = front glides or felt seal. Thumping/grinding from the back = rollers or rear bearing.

Clothes getting snagged?

Items catching inside the drum usually mean the felt seal is torn or a glide is missing a chunk.

Overloaded?

Repeated overloading accelerates glide and roller wear. Stick to rated capacity per load.

Questions before you call

If your dryer is 8+ years old and more than one of these components is showing wear — yes, absolutely. They're all accessed through the same disassembly. Doing them separately on two visits costs more in labor than just doing the whole drum service at once. I'll tell you on-site which parts actually need it.

Usually it's worn glides or a torn felt seal — a hard plastic or sharp edge is catching the fabric. Fixable. If the drum itself has a crack or dent, that's rarer and more expensive — but I'll tell you honestly whether it makes sense to repair or replace.

Not immediately, but don't ignore it. A wobbling drum puts extra stress on the belt and can eventually score the rear shaft. Fix it before it becomes a more expensive repair.

Most dryer repairs run $120–$220 total (labor + part). The most common issues — belt, rollers, heating element — are $20–$140 for the part and $80 for labor. We quote the exact price before we start, after diagnostics.

Depends on the machine. Here's how Dmitry looks at it:

Dryers are the most repair-friendly appliance out there. Parts are simple and cheap: belt $20, rollers $40, element $80, thermal fuse $15. They last for years — no sensitive electronics dying after three.

Real example: A Whirlpool 22 years old — replaced rollers twice at $40 each. Still runs. A Samsung 5 years old — control board failed, $400 repair. The old one was more reliable.

Exception: motor + board + element all at once on a 15+ year-old machine — we'll do the math together. If the repair exceeds $400 and the dryer is over 12 years old, sometimes a new one makes more sense.

Average repair: $150. New dryer: $700–$1,500 plus wait time. Full breakdown: repair vs. replace →

We're based in Orange. Usually 2–3 hours from your call. 9 out of 10 dryer repairs are done same-day: belts, rollers, heating elements — we carry them in the van.

Yes, if the vent is clogged. Wet lint builds up → overheating → ignition. According to NFPA, roughly 2,900 dryer fires happen in the US every year.

We clean the vent duct free with every repair. If it's been a while — call us, we'll check it. Usually $80–$150 if it's just a cleaning with no repair.

70% of the time — yes, it's a clogged vent or flex hose. The element heats, but humid air can't escape. We check airflow with the analyzer.

The other 30%: moisture sensor or heating element running below capacity. The analyzer shows which one in under 5 minutes.

A handyman does a bit of everything. Appliance repair is its own licensed specialty in California.

We have a diagnostic analyzer for pinpoint accuracy, a van stocked with parts, and direct supplier relationships with Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, and Maytag. A handyman will Google it — we see these failures every day.

$89 — waived when you go ahead with the repair. If we don't fix it, you don't pay. You only pay the diagnostic fee if you decide not to proceed.
