Samsung squeak = rollers
High-pitched squealing on Samsung is almost always the drum support rollers. The tech knows the sound before he even arrives.
Samsung's #1 noise complaint is drum rollers — the squeak that starts around year 5–7 and gets worse fast. OEM Samsung roller kits DC97-16782A always in the van. Don't wait for a full seizure. If we don't fix it, you don't pay.

If a Samsung roller seizes completely, it scores the drum shaft. That turns a $150 fix into a $400 repair. Call at first squeak.

Samsung Dryer Tech · Orange
Samsung dryers are solid machines, but they have one Achilles heel: the drum support rollers. By years 5–7, the bearing grease dries out and a characteristic squeak starts. It's quiet at first, then gets louder, then turns into grinding.
My standard Samsung approach: I always replace all four rollers at once, even if only one is squeaking. They wear evenly — replace one and the next one goes within a month. One visit, full set, done right.
For Smart Care models: if you have the Samsung SmartThings app connected to your dryer, check for any error codes before calling — it helps me prepare the exact parts for your model number.
From your call to a working dryer — here's exactly what happens
Describe what's happening. Dmitry asks 2–3 questions and gives you a ballpark price on the spot.
Dmitry tests the element, belt, rollers, motor — and always checks the exhaust duct. A clogged vent is a fire hazard.
Happy with the price — we fix it. Not happy — you only pay $89 for the diagnostic.
We replace the part, clean the vent at no charge, run a full heat cycle, and show you how to prevent the issue from coming back.
Samsung-specific noise failures — identified within 10 minutes of arrival
Most common Samsung noise complaint. Loud squealing or grinding during spin. OEM roller kit DC97-16782A — all four replaced at once. Labor: $80. Part: $40.
High-pitched squeal that shifts into scraping. If the pulley seizes, the belt snaps next. Labor: $80. Part: $25.
Vibration and dull thumping — a coin, button, or sock in the blower housing, or the wheel's hub has cracked. Labor: $80. Part: $30–$60.
A worn Samsung belt can slap against the cabinet on every rotation — rhythmic thumping that gets louder over time. Labor: $80. Part: $20.
Constant heavy hum that doesn't change with drum speed. Rare on Samsung. If it's the motor, we'll discuss repair vs. replace honestly on-site. Labor: $120–$180.
The average tech: "not heating — swap the element" ($150). Didn't help. "Then the thermal fuse" ($80). Still nothing. You pay three times. Our analyzer reads amperage on the element, air temp, and vent airflow in 5 minutes. One part, one visit — no guessing.

Try these before calling
Power off and rotate the drum manually. If you hear squeaking — that's the rollers or idler pulley. It confirms the issue is mechanical, not electrical.
Open the SmartThings app and run a Smart Care check. It can read error codes that help pinpoint the source of the noise.
If the thumping disappears with a lighter load, the drum support components are worn — they can't handle full capacity anymore. Time to call.
Loud airflow noises on Samsung can mean the lint trap housing is packed with lint below the screen. Pull the trap and shine a light into the shaft.
Check the symptoms you're seeing to find the likely cause and repair cost
Probable cause: belt, rollers, or thermal fuse. Repair: $100–$180, 30–45 minutes.
Probable cause: heating element + clogged vent, or moisture sensor. Repair: $120–$220, 30–60 minutes.
Multiple symptoms + burning smell — possible clogged vent (fire risk) or control board failure. Call immediately.
Labor rate is flat. Parts are at cost plus markup. We quote everything BEFORE we start.

No — that's early-stage roller failure. The bearing grease in the rollers has dried out or thickened. When the dryer warms up, the metal expands slightly and the squeak reduces. But the grease isn't coming back, and the roller will seize completely soon. It's much cheaper to fix this now than after it scores the drum shaft.
For Samsung, OEM parts only. Cheap Amazon roller kits last 2–3 months and squeak even louder than the originals. I stock genuine Samsung DC97-16782A roller kits. The cost difference is small — the reliability difference is huge.
Samsung motors are quite reliable. What sounds like motor noise is usually the blower wheel — a coin or debris inside causes the same heavy hum. I always check the blower wheel first before calling it a motor issue. Motor replacements are expensive; blower wheel cleanouts are not.
Most dryer repairs run $120–$220 total (labor + part). The most common issues — belt, rollers, heating element — are $20–$140 for the part and $80 for labor. We quote the exact price before we start, after diagnostics.
Depends on the machine. Here's how Dmitry looks at it:
Dryers are the most repair-friendly appliance out there. Parts are simple and cheap: belt $20, rollers $40, element $80, thermal fuse $15. They last for years — no sensitive electronics dying after three.
Real example: A Whirlpool 22 years old — replaced rollers twice at $40 each. Still runs. A Samsung 5 years old — control board failed, $400 repair. The old one was more reliable.
Exception: motor + board + element all at once on a 15+ year-old machine — we'll do the math together. If the repair exceeds $400 and the dryer is over 12 years old, sometimes a new one makes more sense.
Average repair: $150. New dryer: $700–$1,500 plus wait time. Full breakdown: repair vs. replace →

We're based in Orange. Usually 2–3 hours from your call. 9 out of 10 dryer repairs are done same-day: belts, rollers, heating elements — we carry them in the van.
Yes, if the vent is clogged. Wet lint builds up → overheating → ignition. According to NFPA, roughly 2,900 dryer fires happen in the US every year.
We clean the vent duct free with every repair. If it's been a while — call us, we'll check it. Usually $80–$150 if it's just a cleaning with no repair.
70% of the time — yes, it's a clogged vent or flex hose. The element heats, but humid air can't escape. We check airflow with the analyzer.
The other 30%: moisture sensor or heating element running below capacity. The analyzer shows which one in under 5 minutes.
