Parts in the van. Came, fixed, done.
Open the freezer door and listen carefully. On GE refrigerators, the evaporator fan often starts humming or squealing before it fails completely — a useful early warning.
If you see frost or ice buildup on the interior back wall of the freezer, the problem is the defrost system — not the compressor. That's good news: it's a cheaper fix.
If the compressor clicks every 3–5 minutes but won't start, unplug the fridge. Repeated failed start attempts can burn out the compressor windings.

GE Profile and Café are solid American-built refrigerators. But they have two specific weak points when it comes to cooling.
The biggest one is the main control board — especially on models from 5–10 years ago. When it fails, the compressor simply never gets the start signal. You'll see lights on, fans running, but zero cooling. The second common cause is the evaporator fan motor.
I carry compatible boards for GE and fan motors, so in 90% of cases your fridge is running again the same day.
Root cause identified in 10 minutes.
Classic failure on older GE Profile models — relays or contacts on the rear board burn out. Board replacement resolves it in 20 minutes.
The fan in the freezer pushes cold air into the fridge section. When it fails — often preceded by a hum or squeal — the freezer stays cold but the fridge climbs to 50°F+. Labor: $80.
Newer GE Café and Profile models use linear compressors with an inverter board. When the board burns out, the compressor won't start — even though every other system looks fine.
Defrost heater burns out, evaporator ices over completely, air stops circulating. Repair includes heater replacement and a forced defrost cycle.
