GE's drum design has one quirk the other brands don't: a front bearing glide — a nylon insert that supports the front of the drum. When it wears out completely, the drum can seize rather than just squeak.
Key signal: motor humming but drum completely still = belt or a seized bearing glide. No sound at all = thermal fuse or door switch.
